The EOS Model®: Traction Component™


The EOS Model® provides a visual illustration of the Six Key Components™ of any business that must be managed and strengthened to be a great business. This model applies to big and small businesses alike, in any industry. Our component to explore is Traction®.


The sixth and final key component of the EOS Model® is the Traction® Component. This component focuses on bringing discipline and accountability into the organization, becoming great at execution, and making the vision into reality. So, how do you keep everyone focused, aligned, and communicating well?

The Meeting Pulse™ is a simple tool that ensures the leadership team to communicate well and stay connected. It enables the team to know what is on track and what is not. And it empowers you to identify and solve issues and prevent train wrecks.

By utilizing The Meeting Pulse™, the leadership team will set their quarterly priorities, annual foals, and stay focused from week-to-week to work towards the shared goals for the business.

Once the leadership team has mastered the meeting process, the next step is to roll out the meetings to each department.

Another tool is detrimental to building and keeping Traction® are your Rocks. These are the top priorities for the quarter.

Every 90 days, your leadership team should come together to establish the 3 to 7 most important goals the company must get done by the end of the quarter. You discuss and ultimately agree what has to be done to put you on track for your annual plan. The focus on the Rocks is what makes this process so productive. Rather than being overwhelmed by the monumental task of accomplishing your vision, this process allows you to focus everyone in the same direction and break the vision down into bite-sized, achievable chunks. With the increased intensity of focusing on a limited number of Rocks, your people will accomplish more.

The key to writing great Rocks is to make them SMART: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely. If you write a Rock that misses even one of these key attributes, you will be at great risk for not achieving your goals.
