It’s Not That You Don’t Have a Vision, It’s That You Don’t Agree

One of the most enjoyable parts of the EOS Process is getting a leadership team 100 percent on the same page with their company vision. The main reason is that once this is complete, magic happens and everything falls into place. Priority setting gets better, issue solving gets easier, and accountability just happens. Then results immediately follow.

It may sound difficult or time-consuming to get a leadership team on the same page with their vision, but it’s really not. In most cases, we’re able to do it in less than two days, and it’s rarely as challenging as assumed. The main reason is that it’s normally already in everyone’s head. The unfortunate reality is that each member has a different version.

To get you and your leadership team on the same page with your vision, you only have to answer eight questions (what are/is your: (1) Core values? (2) Core focus? (3) 10-year target? (4) Marketing strategy? (5) Three-year picture? (6) One-year plan? (7) Quarterly Rocks? (8) Issues list?). Once you answer these in complete unison, you then have a vision to take to your organization. Click the following link to download the Vision/Traction Organizer (V/TO), which is a tool and template for containing the answers to the eight questions.

The truth of it is that in most cases, it’s not that you don’t have a vision, you just don’t all agree. To the degree you all get on the same page and agree, most things start to fall into place. You’ll all know where you’re going as a company and how you will get there.

I was talking with an EOS client leadership team at an event, and the team was telling me that they had no vision for the company. After a little digging, we discovered they were on the same page with all but two of the eight questions (what is your 10-year target and what is your core focus?) What is telling is that they had six out of the eight questions nailed, but it still felt as if there was no company vision; this is why answering all eight questions is vital. Upon answering the two unanswered questions, they now feel they have a clear company vision to execute upon.

If you are not feeling on the same page with your leadership team or feel unclear on your company vision, I urge you to spend a little time answering the eight questions and filling out the V/TO as thousands of companies now have. It is an extremely simple and intuitive tool that creates powerful results.
