What is the one “people move” I must make this quarter?

Gino Wickman had a great line:

“You are just a one great person move from a totally different organization”.

  • Where are you having capacity issues?

Your next people move should be a strategic action that strengthens your team, aligns with your Accountability Chart, and ensures Right People, Right Seats (RPRS) in your organization.

Tips for a Better Organization Through People Moves:

1. Assess Your Team Using GWC (Gets it, Wants it, Capacity to do it)

  • Does each person Get their role?
  • Do they truly Want it?
  • Do they have the Capacity (skills, time, mental energy) to do it well?
  • If someone doesn’t meet all three, it’s time for a move.

2. Use the People Analyzer

  • Measure your team against your Core Values using the People Analyzer™ tool. Anyone who doesn’t fit may need coaching, repositioning, or replacing.

3. Clarify the Accountability Chart

  • Is every seat filled with the right person?
  • Are there gaps that are holding you back?
  • Do you have too many hats on one person that need to be reassigned?

4. Make Hard People Decisions Quickly

  • If someone is not the right fit, keeping them drags down the whole team. Move them out respectfully but decisively.

5. Develop & Elevate A-Players

  • Identify your next leader and invest in them.
  • Provide coaching and new opportunities to strengthen the team.

6. Ensure Leadership Alignment

  • Your leadership team should be 100% strong before focusing on the rest of the organization.
  • If a leader isn’t working, fix it now—it only gets harder later.

  • Hire for a critical open seat.
  • Promote an A-Player to a leadership role.
  • Remove someone who is not a Core Values fit.
  • Redistribute responsibilities for better balance.
  • Invest in leadership development for key team members.
