Great Leaders

Great leadership is more about what you do than what you are born with.

Natural charisma may be valuable in some situations, but it has nothing to do with leadership. Being decisive is also useful, but doesn’t mean you effectively lead people. And innate assertiveness may just mean you push people around to get your own way.

Harry Beckwith has been credited with saying, “People don’t lead, purposes do.” If that’s true, a great leader steadfastly focuses on the cause and invites others to participate – to play a contributing part. Great leaders provide opportunities for others to be involved with pursuing something that matters. They lead the charge.

If you occupy a leadership seat in your company, is that what you are doing?
