Let It Go and You’ll Go Places!

Do you feel like you have a grip on your business or does it feel like your business is running you? Are you wondering what it would be like if you could reach the next level and overcome the challenges you’re facing? Good news…you can! Bad news… you have to let go of some things you’re holding onto!

Many of the entrepreneurs and business owners I help share that they want to break through the ceiling they’re hitting. When pressed further, they admit they can’t help clinging to things that are holding them back. Some believe it’s a time management issue. If there were more hours in the day, things that need to get done would get done. The truth is time will always be a limiting factor. No matter how much we cram into our schedules, we’re still limited to 24 hours in a day.

So how do we overcome this? First we must realize

“You can do anything, but not everything.” – David Allen

Regardless of how hard we push ourselves, we can’t do everything. So why do we still try when it comes to running our business?

Gino Wickman, founder of the Entrepreneurial Operating System® (EOS®), in his award winning book “Traction” says, “Your ability to break through the ceiling depends on your ability to delegate…You have to delegate some of your responsibilities and elevate yourself to operate at your highest and best.” In other words, “Delegate to Elevate!”

By giving away some of our smaller time-consuming tasks we’re able to free ourselves up to focus on the bigger picture and ultimately get more accomplished.

The key is figuring out what to give away and finding the right person to get it done. We don’t want to delegate only to take it back again. Jessica Jackley, American business woman and co-founder of Kiva, a company that provides micro loans to entrepreneurs globally says, “Deciding what not to do is as important as deciding what to do.”

Discernment helps us delegate and accountability keeps it in the right hands. Former Heavyweight Champion George Foreman says, “Nobody can do everything well, so learn to delegate responsibility to other winners and then hold them accountable for their decisions.” When you find the right person to get the task done correctly, the result is empowering–for you and the person! It’s a win-win. Delegation frees you from being weighed down by excess tasks and offers the other person a sense of pride in a job well done!

John Maxwell sums it up with his famous words, “If you want to do a few small things right, do them yourself. If you want to do great things and make a big impact, learn to delegate.”

By letting go, you will truly go places.

I’d love to hear how delegating has empowered you and your organization to rise. Maybe EOS® has been part of your success. If you are struggling with this issue, EOS® can help.
