The Quickest and Easiest Way to Become a Master Facilitator

“Everyone needs a coach. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a basketball player, a tennis player, a gymnast or a bridge player.” – Bill Gates

A coach keeps their client accountable. They act as a necessary sounding board and advisor to shape key skills.  A great coach expands their client’s thinking.

One of the key roles and capabilities of an EOS Implementer is that of a facilitator.  Facilitation is the process of helping groups understand their common objectives, discover solutions, and assist them to plan how to achieve their goals.  Above all, a facilitator works to bring out the best of the group and to help them be more effective.

The art of facilitation is a craft that is honed over roughly 10,000 hours of practice to achieve mastery. There is, however, a way to expedite the path to mastery. Your journey to facilitation mastery can be enhanced with the guidance and encouragement of a facilitation coach (“Coach”) who has already walked the path.

A facilitation coach can help you establish a reflective practice and help light the path throughout your journey.  Much like a Sherpa guide, they will inspire you to grow and evolve by:

  • Accelerate Your Journey to Implementation Mastery
  • Develop Self-Awareness and Maintain Accountability
  • Ensure Adequate Self-Care

Accelerate Your Journey to Implementation Mastery

A coach will accelerate your path to mastery. They will not only improve your skills, refine your repertoire of probing questions, but also help you become a better listener. You will become better at evaluating the temperature of the session room, gain a sixth sense of when to intervene, and ultimately drive the team towards stronger and healthy outcomes.

Your value to your clients grow exponentially as you help them clarify, simplify, and achieve their vision.

Develop Self-Awareness and Maintain Accountability

Your coach will provide you with the techniques and tools to project confidence in the session room. Their guidance and wisdom will help you stay calm and steady during heated conversations between group (team) members. Your clients will appreciate your ability to remain engaged and continually work toward healthy productive resolutions.

A coach will keep you accountable for your long term and short term goals. They will act as your advisor. They are your sounding board for pre-session preparation and post-session debriefs. They are a source for constructive feedback, suggested continuing education and will always be in your corner to encourage personal growth and improvement.

Ensure Adequate Self-Care

As an EOS Implementer, you risk the potential for burnout. In order to serve your clients needs, you need to be at your best. A coach will help you regularly check in with yourself, evaluating where you are in your practice mentally, emotionally and physically. You need to take care of yourself first and foremost, so you can deliver your best for your clients.

Find Your Coach

I highly recommend that you take the time to find the right coach for you. Dr. Dino Signore is my facilitation coach.  His Exceptional Facilitator Program has helped many EOS Implementers rapidly improve their skills. I highly recommend that you invest the time, energy and resources to find a coach to help accelerate your path to mastery.

“Victory or defeat is not determined at the moment of crisis, but rather in the long and unspectacular period of preparation.” – Anonymous
