You Don’t Need An MBA To Be A Successful Business Owner

Successful Business Owner

It didn’t take long for me to recognize that maybe college wasn’t for me. Instead, I graduated from the University of Hard Knocks.

Some people may feel bad about not having a college degree, but I’ve never let it stop me. Over the years, I learned a funny thing: you don’t need a fancy MBA for success as a business owner.

Don’t get me wrong… a master’s in business administration (MBA) from a prestigious university certainly won’t HURT. If you have a degree from a fancy business school, good for you! But if you think that makes you smarter than everyone else, you’re going to fail.

The Most Important Credentials

I’ve seen too many business owners think they’ll never have a profitable business without that piece of paper. I say they’re getting hung up on the wrong things. Instead of worrying about credentials for business cards and diplomas for office walls, I say focus on the business. What will your clients say to others about your business and about you? That’s worth far more.

I live by the motto that if I have to tell you I’m good, then I’m not that good. I’d rather show you how I can be of service. That’s more valuable. What can you show your clients that’s valuable to them? In EOS® terms, what 3 Uniques™ can your business offer potential clients? That’s really what you should pitch in meetings with them, with or without that MBA.

To get to your 3 Uniques, you have to do some work. You have to really understand who you are as an entrepreneur and what fueled your desire to start your business. That can help you determine what you need to focus on to grow a successful business. The Vision/Traction Organizer™ (V/TO™) is the perfect EOS Foundational Tool™ to get you started.

The EOS Difference

When it comes to operating your business, I love the simplicity of the Entrepreneurial Operating System®. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel. As a Certified EOS Implementer™, I found EOS has everything you need to run a successful business. Everything is already set up, tried, tested, and true.

As an Implementer, when I work with my clients, nothing is more gratifying to me than seeing them put the pure system into place. By using the EOS Foundational Tools, they gain a sense of direction. Then, getting their Six Key Components™ in place they start to gain Traction®. At that point, they can see themselves getting somewhere. The beauty of EOS is if you follow the process, you never need to add anything more. No bolt-on additions necessary.

By the way, the EOS Model® uses many of the same ideas you’d learn in a business school. But it packages everything together and walks you through how to apply them. You don’t need to understand difficult theories or complicated equations because EOS makes learning the system easy. That means everyone, even someone like me from the School of Hard Knocks, can understand how to use the system.

If you need a little help along the way, that’s what Implementers are here for! We may not all have MBAs, but we have something far more valuable: in-depth knowledge of a process that works.
