In considering all the different suggestions for how to have effective meetings, it’s important to focus on the desired outcome. Any meeting you conduct should first have clearly stated, meaningful objectives and a matching agenda to meet those objectives. Don’t meet because it just feels like you need a meeting.
Business accountability in simplest terms means you do what you say you are going to do as a business. In contrast, the norm today is to over-promise and under-deliver. Dates and times mean almost nothing. Many companies can’t even hit within the time range they communicate. Charging above the quoted price has become so common, many of us have just come to expect it.
At this special time of the year, many of us will be hitting the pause button on our businesses to reflect, rest and spend time with family and friends. So, I also wanted to pause and thank all of you who are part of our EOS Worldwide family.
Anger management is a hot topic today because so many people are angry. Anger management in business is particularly a concern of mine because I have seen so much of it recently. If you have been in a business meeting where someone has “blown up” or “shut down”, you know what I mean. It’s very uncomfortable when it happens and leaves most of us pretty unclear as to what to do next.
A missionary friend of mine said this in a recent update:
Great leaders do 5 things: 1) They give clear direction; 2) They provide the necessary tools. After creating clear openings, you need to give your direct reports the right tools and support they need to succeed. Not doing so is debilitating to your people.
