I have a little ritual with my clients I’d like to share with you. At the start of an annual, quarterly, or Focus Day™ session, I write GGOTO on the whiteboard at the front of the room. What the heck is GGOTO? It stands for the greater good of the organization.

During the past quarter, I kept running into a strange situation that surprised me. I had the same conversation with three leadership teams of family businesses. All three family businesses wondered if all departments should follow EOS concepts when a company runs on EOS.

When a leadership team creates its first Accountability Chart, they start by identifying the major functions of the business. Then they list the roles for each seat at the leadership team level. At this point, I introduce them to the concept of LMA (lead, manage, and hold people accountable) for each leadership position.

When you spend enough days in session with clients, you start to feel like you’ve seen and heard it all. These situations can feel like I’ve stepped into the big top at the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, not a run-of-the-mill quarterly session. These are my confessions of a lion tamer as part of my role as an Expert EOS Implementer™.
