EOS Rocks: How Do They Stack-Up and Line-Up?

EOS Rocks - How do they stack upI had an aha moment in my Focus Day with a new client on Friday.

I was teaching the concept of EOS Rocks (Quarterly | 90-Day priorities) and facilitating them through the process of establishing their own.

  • Company Rocks – The 3 to 7 most important things the Company needs to get done this Quarter.
  • Departmental Rocks – The 3 to 7 most important things your Department needs to accomplish this Quarter.
  • Individual Rocks – The three to seven most important things You need to get done this Quarter.

The real aha was not in the importance of rock setting, I already understood their power. The aha was in a very simple diagram that I casually doodled on the whiteboard.

It looked like an inverted Christmas tree. The Corporate EOS Rocks, the most important to ensuring the company achieves its vision, were represented by the chevron at the top. The Departmental EOS Rocks were the middle layer. The Individual EOS Rocks were the bottom and smallest branches. The trunk of the tree points towards the heavens, the company vision that completing the rocks will help achieve.

The graphic enabled the leadership team to grasp and embrace the concept better than any words I could muster.

A true aha moment . . . success through simplicity.
