The EOS Life®: Being Compensated Appropriately

Being compensated appropriately

The next discipline of living the EOS life® is being compensated appropriately. Being compensated properly is really just the value you add to other people. The question is, how do you add tremendous value to other people?

People are paid in direct proportion to the perceived value they provide others. In other words, if you help a bunch of people get what they want, you’ll be paid more. Not many people want to hear or believe that. I think the best place to give an example here is professional sports.

You hear people criticizing the earnings of professional athletes all the time. Take Michael Jordan as an example. He made a little less than $100 million in his career. He made $130 million recently from Nike in royalties. In contrast, Nike made $215 million PER QUARTER off the contract. Jordan’s name brings loads of value to himself, but exponentially more to other people.

If You Want To Earn More, Add More Value

If you want to be compensated appropriately or earn more, you need to get really clear on what you can be the absolute best in the world at — that’s your niche. You will discover your niche from your Core Focus™. Then, turn to your Marketing Strategy.

Be sure you are crystal clear as to who your target market is, your ideal client. You need to bring more value to your target market, which is your ideal client:  “The List.” That’s the psychographic, demographic, and geographic of the people you are uniquely designed to serve.

Next, focus on your 3 Uniques™. Are they truly unique? Did you compare yourself to your competitors to make sure? If you don’t, you’re going to end up competing on price and you won’t be compensated really well. So make sure you’re delivering on your 3 Uniques.

Once you’ve identified who you are uniquely suited to serve and you define your 3 Uniques™, you will be positioned to add tremendous value. Then you need to deliver on that value over and over again with absolute consistency.  Focus on delivering on your proven process. If you do that, you will be compensated appropriately.

To do what you do really well and to serve your target market, you need to stop doing $25 an hour work. Don’t get hung up on that dollar figure — it’s just an example. But use the Delegate and Elevate™ Tool so that you stop doing administrative-type work. As a leader in your organization, stop checking your email. Stop managing your calendar. Your time and that of your leadership team is better spent working on the business and taking it to the next level.

So to wrap this up, if you help enough people get what they want, you will get what you want. It’s all about delivering value that’s being compensated appropriately.
